Testing Services

The ASC administers make-up exams and assessment tests. You will be notified of the time and location of your test and any applicable fees. If you need to cancel or reschedule a test, notify the ASC. Students who neglect to finish required assessment tests will have a $50 fine added to their account and will not be able to receive a transcript or diploma until necessary tests are completed.

Make-Up Testing

Students who missed a classroom quiz or exam, for many reasons including traveling with a team or any other school sponsored event, illness or most instructor/professor approved excused absences, should schedule to make-up said quiz or exam in the ASC. While it is preferred that you make an appointment 24 hours ahead of time, consideration may be given if space and time allows for the exception. Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or reschedule your testing appointment, please call (314) 392-2364. If you miss more than three appointments per semester without contacting us ahead of time, we reserve the right to refuse future service.

Make-Up Testing appointments can be made from:

  • Monday: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Thursday: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Assessment Tests

Students will be mailed a reminder letter the semester that they are required to take the CLA+, Proficiency Profile, MFT and CPCE. However, it is the student’s responsibility to schedule their testing appointment for Assessment Day by calling (314) 392-2364 or by stopping by the ASC in FLD 117/119. If you have any questions regarding assessment tests, contact or call (314) 392-2364. It is a graduation requirement at MBU that students must meet the following assessment criteria:


The Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) is given to incoming, first time Freshman, during their first semester. This assessment takes a look at critical thinking and reading, writing mechanics and effectiveness, and analysis and problem solving. This assessment is offered in the fall and spring semesters.

Proficiency Profile

The Proficiency Profile is required for students who have completed between 55 and 89 credit hours, at least 30 credits at MBU, must take the assessment, a general education assessment. This assessment is for non-education majors. This assessment gauges skills and understanding across the general education required courses typically taken and finished by the junior year. This assessment is offered in the fall and spring semesters.


The Major Field Test (MFT) is required for graduating Seniors studying biology, bio-chemistry, bio-technology, business, chemistry, computer science, criminal justice, English, history, math, music and psychology must take this exam. Senior education majors pursuing certification in biology, business education, chemistry, English and math must take the Major Field Test to satisfy the concentration requirement. This test is given during the students’ final semester. This test gauges skills and understanding obtained in upper division, major required courses. This test is given in the fall, spring and summer semesters.

*For students studying exercise science and sport management, there is an exit exam. This test is given during the students’ final semester, as a part of their capstone course.


 the Counselor Preparation Comprehenseive Examination (CPCE) is required for students in the Master of Arts in Counseling (Licensure) program must take the CPCE from the Nation Board of Certified Counselors. This test is given during the students’ final semester. This test gauges skills and understanding obtained in all required and elective coursework in the counseling program. This test is given in the fall, spring and summer semesters.


The DSST allows students to receive college credit for information they already know without completing a college-level class. There are 38 tests in the areas of math, business, physical science, humanities, social sciences and technology. Tests are by appointment only and administered online. Each exam has an $80 fee that must be paid online. Non-MBU students must also pay a $30 test site fee, which can be paid by cash or check on the day of the exam.
